"Staff at reception and shuttle drivers not very helpful or friendly. Information provided from reception poor, especially regarding the shuttle times. Shuttle driver not friendly and helpful. Rating on hospitality very very poor!!! Room was comfortable, however shower head was broken and was not up to standard with the rest of the room. "Whilst the rooms are a little gloomy, the shuttle service with the motel providing airport pickup and morning return is excellent where simply a place to stay overnight between flights is all that is required. "I have given this hotel a high rating simply because if one balances the low room rates, good service at reception and with free sirport shuttle, on site parking, very clean room and more than adequate for overnight accommodation. It more than offsets that this is an older establishment with paint chips and without all the "mod cons" of a 5 star establishment. If you want 5 star then this isn't your hotel but if you want good clean accommodation at exceptional rates then this is excellent. Have stayed here twice now and will continue to do so when I have an early departing or late arriving plane. The room rate is always less than the cost of airport parking." KB, 22 July 2011


"Check in was a breeze and the staff were friendly. We only booked a 'day room' but were put into a room away from all other guests and were able to have piece and quiet to sleep off our travels before heading off again. The room was nice, clean and tidy...the only suggestion would be to have black out drapes for those who need sleep during the day.
The wall outside our room looked like it needed new wall paper or a paint and the shower wall had a crack through it, but thats all, a little more attention to detail but not neccessary for the price you are paying." Anonymous, 19 July 2011

"We stayed in the 3 Bedroom Unit, which looked like it was originally managers quarters as was connected by doors which were now locked to the office etc. The space was good, however the carpet was filthy, when you walked on the carpet with barefeet your feet literally turned black. The airport pickup was good, it was easy to check in, the room was fine, the bed comfy, the wakeup call worked, and the staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. "Poor information regarding airport pick up, had to wait for 45mins late at night after an international flight. Shuttle driver used cell phone while driving - this is not only unsafe but ILLEGAL. Bathroom sink had hair in/on it. Staff were unfriendly.

"The price is very reasonable for the ability to leave your car in storage. However, don't expect any warm and friendly service. "We saw a cockroach in the bathroom. Also the shuttle was slow in picking us up from the airport and slow in getting us to the airport the next morning even though we had given them the time we NEEDED to leave by, consequently we were almost late for our flight.

"Make no mistake about it... this is budget accommodation at best and if that’s what you’re after, Airport Gateway is your place.

The counter staff, while friendly enough once warmed up, won’t be leaping in front of cars or opening doors for you upon your arrival, and you will have to remind them again of any special requirements you have (even though you’ve already requested these in your booking), but they will make an effort if your need is great enough, as did the gentleman who assisted me with my secure parking needs.

Did I mention budget... Gateway isn’t the Hilton and this is clearly evident in the overall condition of the building and rooms. One suggestion is to check your room for any problems and that your shower and shower head are operational upon your arrival as I didn’t and found out in the morning my shower head was broken and just flopped to the floor - had to lace it up with the hose but eventually got there.

Also the continental breakfast wasn’t available from the reported 7am time and arrived late at about 8.20am, but there was plenty of fruit and yoghurt to supplement if thats you’re thing.

I only required one night’s stay and didn’t pay a lot, and in return didn’t get a lot however, the bed was comfortable, the TV worked, was a quiet location and most important of all, had a fine night’s rest." Anonymous, 13 November 2009

"Stayed here for one day to attend concert at Auckland. We chose this hotel based on Ezibed.com reviews and were not disappointed. Staff were friendly and helpful, the service at the reception was excellent. They were very helpful and one member of staff even offered us an umbrella when we were going out in the rain! Breakfast the usual continental, good choice of cereals, bread, juice, yoghurts, tea/coffee etc. Our room was comfortale and good size. There was tea/coffee, fridge in the bedroom and sky tv. All in all, a really good place to stay, we enjoyed our stay at this hotel in Auckland and will definitely be back! Thoroughly recommended." Mic, 28 July 2009

"Hi, no problems with the room (better than we expected), however there was a rather cavilier approach with the airport transfer from motel to airport leg on our return journey. They seem to adopt a "just in time approach" allowing no time for any unexpected problems. Once we arrived at the airport we only just managed to make the check in deadline because they first went to international then droped us off at domestic. "The hotel was the worst I have ever stayed in. The bed was uncomfortable the door to the bathroom was rotten, the wood around the shower entry was rotten and there were hairs in the shower and on the vanity. The staff in the evening were dis-interested in being helpful and the driver that picked us up from the airport was speeding. "I won't stay there again. On the first night one of the towels in the bathroom had been put out with a huge bloodstain on it. It had been washed, but they didn't use napi-san or throw it out. On the 2nd night I rang up asking for hot chocolate as they didn't put any out when the room got serviced the 2nd day despite my note I left, and the woman told me to come to reception and get it." Anonymous, 26 May 2008
