"Room we stayed in on arrival (ground floor) was nicer than second room (1st floor). Both had ants in bathroom and had a musty odour. Transfer minibus from Auckland airport on both occasions incurred a wait of at least half an hour rather than the 5 mins as advertised, were very uncomfortable and the driver who collected us on one occasion was dangerous and almost crashed. I have scored the hotel with a six despite the negatives above because the staff on reception were always very friendly and helpful." Anonymous, 16 February 2011

"An interesting stay but ok. First impressions not great. Gardens full of weeds. The front desk welcome was not very warm but a nice man did bring my bag upstairs for me. On entering our room, as non smokers we knew instantly that our room wasn't smoke free as requested. Used smoke butts outside the ranch slider on the balcony. Linen beautifully clean but beds tired and in need of replacing. I informed staff of two drawer fronts that came off in my hands as I attempted to open them when looking for a welcome/information pack that I thought might have been in the room. They obviously don't have them provided. (Folders that usually inform the guest of entertainment venues or resturants in the area). Paint chipped and tired looking. Cobwebs around the ceiling. "I stayed here about 18 months ago and it was good budget accommodation then but it sure has gone down hill since. There was no warm greeting on arrival, the room was of poor standard, the light over the toilet didn't work, shower door was hard to open, TV reception was fuzzy. "Really nice room, clean and containing all mod cons. Reception was efficient, booked an early morning wake-up call and space on a 4.30am shuttle to the airport. Only disappointment was arriving at the hotel just after 9pm (due to slight delay pick up from the airport) and was unable to get food from the restaurant. "Ours was a very breif stay (1 night before our flight to Fiji). The Kiwi International staff were polite and accommodating, it was convenient to the airport and we parked our vehicle there while we were away for no extra cost. "Stayed one night - the last of a month long stay in NZ - and it was the worst of all of them, after staying in motels most nights, we chose the hotel at Kiwi International for a final night. The first room we were given was non smoking, but stank of stale smoke. When we asked to change we were given another room, but this was dirty. The bathroom had cobwebs all over, the expelair wasn't working, and obviously had not been cleaned for months. The bathroom fittings were mostly very old and dirty, as was the bedroom. The kitchen was poorly fitted, and when we complained we were told this was an 'updated' room - I dread to think what an old one was like! It left a poor impression of our last night of an otherwise fantastic stay in NZ. We will not be going there or recommending this hotel to anyone - just the opposite." David Millett, 27 August 2009

"The room was already left open and badly cleaned. There was no air conditioning and the room was stifling. The hallway was full of tarps and painting gear. I asked for a wake-up call at 0500 as I had to get to the airport. I also needed to check out and get a proper receipt. I was assured people would be at the desk - 'we are a 24 hour service'. "Very Clean and helpful. Only stayed one night but was able to leave our car at the hotel while away overseas for a week. Was picked up and dropped off at the airport, and the friendly staff even started our flat battery for us when we returned. Enjoyed a lovely meal in the restaurant as well.
