"Nice place, friendly staff, clean and pleasant, lovely lounge, kitchen small but adequate, close to town. Parking limited. The double room is very small and had a smell about it - maybe wet carpet from the bathroom next door. I think the double is overpriced." Lyall Scheib, 18 April 2009

Dorset House Backpackers Response: Hi there, thank you for your feedback. We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us at Dorset House. Thank you for your feedback on the musty smell, we are sorry that you had this problem with your room. We investigated and found a problem with the shower in the bathroom above the room you stayed in - a broken shower liner causing water to leak underneath and into the ceiling, and cause the smell you mentioned. We have now completely gutted and renovated this bathroom, (brand new shower) and this has fixed the leakage problem. Thanks for pointing it out to us, and we hope to see you again sometime,

"The best, cleanest, friendliest, most well set up hostel I have stayed at in over 4 continents!!!!! That's a BIG CALL - but true. Everything I needed and more. Excellent facilities, fab common areas with billiard tables and movies, outdoor deck for a glass of wine and the moonrise over Christchurch, superb heating and amazing kitchen. Staff cruisy but went above and beyond the call of duty; the comfiest bed I've slept in for ages and only 4 to a room.
