*NEW* Customer Reviews of Hotel Grand Chancellor Auckland City
"Staff friendly and helpful. Unfortunately loud traffic noise. Room was clean but not appealing. There is construction happening adjacent to the hotel this would be a major concern during work hours due to noise." Louise, 1 May 2012
"Very good value for money. Staff very helpful." Susan Hewson, 21 March 2012
"The room was a big disappointment from that described and expected! There was no separate sitting area and the room was extremely small. Beds and pillows hard. The interior proved tired with broken tiles on floor and the shower needs regrouting, the wall paint chipped and in need of a repaint, construction site outside window unadvised, no hairdryer, small shower, very poor lighting and any additional extra's like hand lotion missing." Anonomous, 20 March 2012
"No free internet access. A fairly tired hotel, no bedside lights, no access to basement parking without getting a staff member, $30 a day for parking (most places are $20). But good spa and lap pool, sauna and gym. Construction site next door, jack hammers started at 8am." Sandy, 24 February 2012
"Was a very comfortable stay." Anonymous, 10 August 2011
"Room was comfortable, clean and had a comfortable bed. Only on the third floor so there was alot of traffic noise - reluctant to have windows/doors open because of this. Felt totally ripped about the price of parking - had to park next door in public car park due to all hotel car parks were 'full'. Reception staff need to advise guests of actual costs of parking - especially on a Sunday night/monday morning - $50 to get the car out!! Not too impressed with breakfast either -got charged extra for the espresso coffees." Anonymous, 26 May 2011
"I chose this property based on location, which was good, but also because i wanted to a pool, spa and sauna, and I had seen another review on ezi-bed saying that another customer parked for $10 per night. When I got there, I was informed that the pool was empty, the spa didnt look appealing at all and the sauna was cold. And to top it off the parking was $30. I would say this property is more 3 star than 4. Good reception staff." Anonymous, 17 May 2011
"Very clean and well presented, the only problem we had was the room full of youngsters next to us who were having a 'party' at 2am!!!! Not the Grand Chancellors fault at all! Staff were very polite and helpful also. Very enjoyable stay. Thank You" Eleanor Clark, 30 March 2011
"The Hotel has a great team working for it. I enjoyed my stay very much, I received very polite and courteous conversations with every interaction. The hotel has a great gym and pool facilities. The 24 room service was not very vast and when I ordered something after hours it was not available. But other than this it was comfortable and I would definitely stay again!!!" Penny Thompson, 29 December 2010
"Everything just perfect." Katrina, 1 November 2010
"Could have supplied more than a teaspoon of milk each. Directions to the hotel were confusing." David Oliver, 18 October 2010
"We were on 1st floor and the street noise was terrible!! Also thought that the bathroom tiles etc could have been a bit cleaner." Victoria Oliver, 1 September 2010
"Small room, air conditioning bit cold and thin sheets on bed" Emma Poyner, 1 September 2010
"My first choice of accommodation in Auckland. Will keep going back !!" Katrina, 7 August 2010
"Functional hotel, good location. Tidy, but cheap decor, old TV, cheap cracking tiles, no view." Scott Henderson, 4 August 2010
"Room was dark and very noisy from the road but I guess we should have expected that as it was cheap. There were no blankets on the beds only the bedsspreads which weren't very snuggly or warm. When we called asking about room service breakfast the service wasnt very good and we expected more choice than just a continental or cooked. Overall the hotel didn't meet the expectations of a 4 star hotel." Anonymous, 30 July 2010
"Generally good...reception could have been a little more helpful." Valda Robertson, 6 July 2010
"Service was good . Room was spacious, could have improved in cleaning of the bathroom and the hotels pool, Gym & sauna were however very nice ." Anonymous, 13 June 2010
"I do enjoy giving people compliments and be able to tell all my friends and family about it but "not this time"... I had a really bad experience at the Grand Chancellor, when I arrived at the hotel I had to wait about 20mins before I got to my room because they did not have any records of my booking, so I had to go to the internet and send a copy of the Ezibed.com email to the receptionist. And that was not all. When I got to the room I wanted to sleep for a couple of hours before going out but there was huge white marks on the bed, it was so clear the white marks on the dark blanket it was really disgusting! I called the reception straight away saying that I just got in the room and the blankets were dirty and I needed new ones! 15MINS LATER... the guy comes to my door and gave me a new blanket and was going to walk out. Can you believe that!? I was like can you come to the room to see this? So he saw and didn’t say anything just kept looking at the white marks on the bed. So I took the blanket out and gave to him. Very, very poor service!! I’ve stayed in many hotels and that one was just shocking! I was really tired because otherwise I would’ve left to see someone about it. Well at least my family and friends are aware that they should not stay at Hotel Grand Chancellor Auckland City." R.Rodrigues, 22 May 2010
"Was very disappointed with the room (very strong air fresher smell that didn't go away) service wasn't flash aswell." Nathan Wilson, 12 May 2010
"The staff were very helpful, the property clean and modern and it was well located in regards to the Viaduct Harbour area." Shaun Lines, 11 May 2010
"No problems at all." Tracee Hoare, 19 April 2010
"13th floor 3 room apartment, mean views heaps of room. most furniture needed maintinance was only down point." Anonymous, 7 April 2010
"We were very disapointed in this hotel expecting a King size bed we got a queen. Our room wasn't very clean. We were on the first floor just above the road it was hard to decide to have the windows open with the road noise or to have them closed and use the air conditioning which was load too. We made the mistake of eating at the resturant at the hotel the food and service was not good." Anonymous, 19 March 2010
"Another great stay at Hotel Grand Chancellor :-)" Katrina, 19 March 2010
"Had a wonderful stay. Reception staff were friendly/helpful, no fuss at all when checking in and out. Room was clean, comfortable and well appointed. Would definitely stay there again - oh, actually did a few days later !! I've stayed in a few hotels over the years and for $99, this was excellent value." Katrina, 15 March 2010
"Always receive excellent welcome and service. Our fourth visit proved to be as enjoyable as ever." Neil STANTON, 21 February 2010
"Air Conditioning was very loud and didn't really cool the room. Walls were very very thin and I could hear everything that was going on in the room next door." Samantha Miller, 25 January 2010
"Hotel Grand Chancellor seem to have a limited knowledge of how online booking sites such as Ezibed.com work. The staff were blunt and uncompromising when it was explained that they should have mentioned the $200 deposit on their Ezibed page. Perhaps HGC should become more in tune with how booking sites work and view them more as a partner in business and not just an advertising site." Anonymous, 19 January 2010
"cheap and clean, friendly staff on reception desk. Unfortunately some drawbacks- kingsize bed was actually 2 singles pushed together and sheets didn't fit. We were on the second floor and on the corner there is a nightclub- The Suite; therefore a lot of noisey late night drunk patrons walking the street at all hours." Anonymous, 16 January 2010
"Small housekeeping problems, not expected from a 4 star hotel." Anonymous, 5 January 2010
"Front desk staff are extrordinarily unfriendly. I've stayed at many hotels over the years, good and bad, but the staff at this hotel are in a league of their own. I greeted the room staff on 3 occassions; not one reply. Best bit was the $99 tariff. You pay for what you get ..." Michael Johnston, 3 January 2010
"We were really impressed with the facilities available in the room and would definately stay there again. A point to consider; drinking water should be available in the gym area, and for health reasons a sweat towel should also be provided." Brett & Helen McMurtrie, 22 December 2009
"Very nice and clean, helpful competent staff (especially under pressure), just a bit noisy with the Hobson St traffic - you get that with the great location so close to Sky City and the Viaduct." KathyS, 22 December 2009
"The room was not very clean, there was old coleslaw left in the fridge from a past guest. The room service meal wasnt very good at either." Monique Atkins, 15 December 2009
"The room and location were fantastic, however we were unable to stay in the room type we booked for the first night as other guests had extended in the water view apartment. The staff offered complimentary breakfast for 2 as compensation which was o.k." Jeni Williamson, 5 December 2009
"Good service but a little noisy at night because of the location." Nely Souza, 26 August 2009
"Room was clean and roomy with good heating, shower a little small though but overall we enjoyed our stay. Was well worth it." Troy Conole, 16 August 2009
"Excellent room, exceptional service at reception. Great value for money." Maggie Christian, 4 August 2009
"Staff don't explain things well to first-time guests. We were issued a parking space without being told there was an extra charge or where to find it! And also were not told the elevators don't work until you swipe your room key card. Only little things but frustrating delays at the end of a long journey! Hotel is lovely though - staff let it down a little." Anonymous, 14 April 2009
"It was excellent. Great room and reasonable room-service breakfast. For that price, I'd happily go again." Anonymous, 14 August 2008
"While I have stayed in much more lavish rooms, the one we had was quite comfortable. Breakfast to us, was to expensive, but for us the Hotel was well located being an easy walk to town & the docks where we had to catch a ship. I had some reservations about the roadway outside but it was quiet during the night. If required we would stay at the Grand Chancellor again." Errol Kelk, 17 April 2008
