*NEW* Customer Reviews of James Cook Hotel Grand Chancellor

"A spacious room, dinner was the best we have had there & breakfasts are always good." Anonymous, 31 December 2011

"Very good, apart from waiting 15 minutes for my car to be brought down from carpark for me, had to ask a second time where it was. Valae forgot about it" Aaron Campbell, 2 February 2011

"The hotel room, staff service and food were excellent." Giulia Jones, 22 September 2010

"Internet service is appallingly expensive." Conrad Delvo, 14 September 2010

"We enjoyed being able to open a window and get the room a bit cooler than the average hotel. Very comfortable bed and adequate space in the bedroom but the shower was a bit weak." Caroline Innes, 14 September 2010

"Great Hotel at a great rate." Brett Hollis, 11 August 2010

"Whilst the hotel was clean and tidy, the rooms are tired and need to be upgraded. The costs of the accomodation was not commenstruate with the age and condition of the fit out ...... Disappointing for the price to be honest." -, 3 August 2010

"I didn't think the room service menu was that great otherwise would have scored it higher. The food combinations seemed odd." Anonymous, 1 July 2010

"Superb. Staff very professional and excellent room and facilities apart from the bed being a bit too firm." Phil Simms, 11 June 2010

"Thank you. Very good, friendly staff and hotel atmosphere." Anonymous, 2 June 2010

"Very pleasant stay at James Cook. Staff helpful, great room." Stephen Birkhead, 20 February 2010

"Most impressed with the cleanliness of the rooms" Honey-Lia Wade, 4 February 2010

"The facilities were great, however it should be mandatory to instruct all patrons on how to use the key cards. Fortunately I was helped by two young girls who shoed me how to use them in the elevators. During my stay I came across two other couples that needed help on how to use them as well." Anonymous, 3 February 2010

"Really enjoyed our stay. The room was awesome. Had a view out to sea which was lovely. The only thing was that we weren't sure about the drink on arrival and had to ask about it. Maybe something should have been provided when we checked in." Michele Davis, 3 February 2010

"Had two nights at this hotel on a very busy weekend in Wellington. Found the service excellent. Location is great. Handy to the stadium, Queens wharf and shopping. Would fully recommend." Anonymous, 2 February 2010

"Staff were pleasant, room was quiet, outlook from room was poor, room service excellent, dining in the restaurant was a disappointment, unable to eat the fish - it was like rubber." Anonymous, 24 January 2010

"Had to upgrade to superior room when we got to hotel to get kingsize bed, must have mis-read description for standard room as being different to Jimmys room special. Receptionist charged extra $20, but on talking to manager later she agreed to waive charge, very impressed!!! Hotel in great position, can leave car and walk to most destinations with ease." Anonymous, 10 January 2010

"We like the JC for its central location and good restuarant/food. However, the bed was too hard and we had some noisy neighbours on the first night." Andrew Scott, 16 December 2009

"Very comfortable and central, staff very helpful, one small and minor problem that TV in room was very small." Peter Ingram, 5 November 2009

"Great room and bathroom. A larger TV screen might have been better." Peter McArdle, 21 October 2009

"Nice & clean, redecorated room. Lifts are confusing. Room not ready till afternoon & not cleaned till late." Karen Clegg, 5 October 2009

"We love the James Cook, it has real character & a nice atmosphere. The service was excellent." John Hyndman, 23 July 2009

"The staff are alwas courteous and the facility is great." Alan Emerson, 24 June 2009

"As far as value for money is concerned this hotel was lacking. As a business traveller covering all of NZ for $200 per night I would have expected a more superior room." Michael McLay, 22 June 2009

"Room was clean and good, but no view except into alley. The weekend rate was OK, but the weekday rates are too high. This is a well run, business hotel, maybe too expensive for tourists like us." Bill, 17 June 2009

"If the ethernet cable was a bit longer I could have used my laptop from bed which would have been better for clearing the morning emails." Eric Gosse, 16 June 2009

"We were greeted by very polite warm and helpful staff. We were given the option to upgrade which we accepted and were both thrilled with the high standard of accommodation, very clean warm and comfortable. Thank you. The only expense we werent expecting was the parking fee, but we were told on our arrival. Congratulations to all front line staff and cleaners, top job done by all." Sharon & Neal, 15 April 2009

"Service was great, the staff were very helpful. I do think that the rooms are a bit overpriced for what they are and for how big they are." Hannah Kelly, 18 March 2009

"Smooth check-in, friendly efficient staff and faultless presentation of room. Gym equipment in excellent order. The personal "welcome" message on the television in our room was a thoughtful touch. This hotel ranks among the best we've stayed at in NZ or abroad!" Anonymous, 25 February 2009

"Service etc excellent plus we were lucky to have an upgrade to a Director's Suite. Would definitely stay again. The only downside was the shower over the bath was a bit low." Brent & Shona McHattie, 24 February 2009

"Great service, great location." Graeme Kissick, 29 January 2009

"Typical hotel layout. Bathroom first then room. The room was very clean, very comfortable bed, quiet room. Our room had been refurbished very well. For what we payed it was good value." Michelle Brunt, 14 December 2008

"I often stay at the Bolton Hotel for work, this was my first stay at James Cook Hotel and I think it offers better service and nicer rooms than the Bolton. It is somewhere I would definitely stay again and I would use it for our work travels also. Would recommend to others." Debbie Smith, 10 December 2008

"Clean, comfortable, and central. Staff were excellent." Robert Simpson, 2 December 2008

"Excellent location, tidy clean room and friendly staff. Worth paying a little extra for the location." Tony Kinzett, 9 November 2008

"Accommadation was OK. Upgraded to a room with a sea view which we should have looked at first before deciding - not that much sea to be seen! The buffet meal was not the greatest for the price. The breakfast was excellent though." Vivienne Clark, 14 October 2008

"The James Cook still looks a little tired. The card lock on our door hardly ever worked, there were no small packs of Cookies in our room, room service was sporadic, etc etc. One pen, two sheets of paper, light bulb gone over the bed. And all this in the so called re-furbished part of the hotel. All little things that add up. Also, our free upgrade that we were promised last year was "out of date" (We go every year at the same date for our anniversary). Unfortunately we will probably be going to another hotel next year." Anonymous, 14 July 2008

"Sound proofing between rooms and hallway is non-existent so woken a few times in the night by rowdy neighbours. Meals provided by room service were cold and pretty average. But overall it was a good stay. The quality of the room was excellent - nice decor and very clean." Anonymous, 9 July 2008

"Every staff member I had contact with was incredibly professional, friendly, and helpful. I had to change rooms due to the noise being let in by the window seal being broken (I'm recovering from a traumatic brain injury and noise escalates the headache significantly) and everyone was very helpful and I was made to feel that I wasn't causing any fuss at all - yet I"m sure I was! So thank you very much for a very pleasant stay." Celia Monk, 19 June 2008

"The Superior Room was pretty small and a little bit dated in terms of the decor but it was fine for stopping in Wellington for a night if you're planning on going out as well. Excellent service from the staff." Anonymous, 11 June 2008

"Excellent value for money - top service, great position, we found the room 2202 to be of a very high standard, spacious and well appointed. Recommend this top class Wellington Hotel. The staff were very professional and yet friendly. This is a very well run property." John Logie, 3 June 2008

"Prompt, efficient check in, they organised my rental car for me without a hitch. Concierge even helped me start the car when I couldn't get it to go! Friendly, helpful desk staff. I ticked the box for a newspaper - which didn't arrive in the morning. The barman in the Whitby restaurant knows nothing about the wines they serve, and needs some training. Perhaps he is new?" Lynn Whitehead, 22 April 2008
