"My partner and I always stay at Le Grand when in Hamilton. The rooms are always splendid and its central location makes it convenient for any leisure activity. The staff are fabulous; at any time of day or night we have found them to be helpful and welcoming. "Previous stays have been OK which was why we booked again. However, this time the experience was not so good. The decor is looking tired, worn carpets, cracked wash basins, cracked mirror, etc. To cap it all there was a fire in the laundry room which necessitated an evacuation at 0130 in the morning. The fire alarm did not activate and guests had to be contacted individually by phone to request evacuation. There was no roll call and no one apparently in charge. There was also no apology from the management. Finally, being Easter Weekend the restaurant was closed (not a major problem as there are plenty of decent eateries close by). "A very deceptive looking place. The room we had was huge. The first impression of the hotel was from the rear where you park and that is not attractive but once you are inside it transforms into another little world. "Yes the rooms are big with very old air con that couldn't keep up. The parking is a huge let down, if you don't find a park early then you are forced to park in an alleyway and hand over keys to reception for them to move if need be. We found our car had been badly scratched the next morning - who does that to a wedding car with the ribbons still on!! The complimentary breakfast was very unorganised. We had to ask countless times for items of food or plates and spoons to be stocked up so we could eat! However a very central place to stay for restaurants, the staff were always friendly. "On checking in the toilet was dirty and when I went to have a cup of tea the milk had turned sour as the fridge was not turned on. Great sized rooms but it would have been nice to have been offered assistance with luggage. We had people roaming the hallways on the 2nd night who were swearing and walking around with bottles and screaming right outside our room so after three calls to reception it was finally tamed. "Older style hotel refurbished in convenient location close to restaurants on main street. Large clean rooms, friendly service. Continental breakfast voucher added bonus. "I was surprised by being given breakfast vouchers upon my arrival - I had not expected that. The staff were very friendly and very helpful, and I would definitely return to this accommodation. The tidbits in the rooms were a very nice touch (shampoo, soaps etc), but it was the staff and their attitude who earned themselves a 10 in my book!" Carole Badge, 31 July 2008
