*NEW* Customer Reviews of Oakwood Manor - Auckland Airport

"The place is old and is in need of an upgrade. The cleaner hadn't finished in our room, and the TV didn't work. The staff were friendly and it is in a great location to the airport. And there was ample parking which was free." Christie Thompson, 2 January 2012

"Great for what we were needing. The kids loved the swimming pool. Would stay again." Jacqui Scott, 1 January 2012

"The room was clean and quiet which was what we needed. The room did not have cooking facilities apart from a microwave, but I thought the room detail indicated there was a hot plate." Sharon Cooper, 8 November 2011

"The rooms are clean and comfortable if a bit outdated. Most motels we've stayed in in NZ give fresh milk, Oakwood are still on UHT and 5 little tubs really doesn't cut it for 2 people.
The restaurant is good home cooked food and the waitress service is superb. Reception staff are nice, helpful and quite efficient." Anonymous, 15 October 2011

"It was clean and the beds were comfortable. Unfortunately the spa pool was out of order and we were not told of this until we arrived. We did not get the complimentary bag of lollys as per our package. Would stay again." Anonymous, 9 June 2011

"Friendly and helpful staff, willing to find out info for me on where an art gallery was situated.
Lighting on the sign outside would make it easier to find on dark, wet nights. Well priced on the Ezibed site." Rhona Shaw, 8 June 2011

"Room was changed immediately when I asked for a heater - no heater in the first room.
Clean and quiet - thank you." Ray Haslar, 4 May 2011

"We were happy with the service we received at Oakwood. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the room was clean and neat if a little tired." Judith Walsh, 4 April 2011

"Upon arrival we were turned away and sent to the Silver Oaks down the road about 1km. This was due to the arrival of rescue personnel enroute to the Christchurch earthquake disaster. Of course we gladly gave up the room and departed for the Silver Oaks.

Upon arrival there we were met not with a "Hello", but with a gruff "Just a minute while I finish this last one, the computer system is hopeless". Nice. The reception area, all in a monotonous cream with DO THIS DON'T DO THAT notices scruffily taped up everywhere just added to the ambiance.
We were sent to Room 34, right round the back, with an outlook to a vacant lot with 2 chopped down trees, and the other way some of Mangere's best graffiti on tumble-down tin fences. Surely the owner here could invest in a fence around his car park to improve the outlook and provide security for car parking?
Beds very comfy and clean and facilities in the room were pretty good. Upon our return from the concert we went to, we found our breakfast had been delivered, the milk in a jug just left out in the heat rather than thoughtfully placed in the fridge a metre away.
With a few tweaks, this place could really improve - the outside is the let-down, the rooms themselves are good for the price." WR - Tauranga, 3 March 2011

Oakwood Manor - Auckland Airport Response: We do apologize for the transfer from the Oakwood to the SilverPoint Motor Inn, In a time of crisis it was essential that we could do every thing we could to assist, and we thank you for that. We will certainly look at putting a fence up between the Hotel and the spare land at the SilverPoint.

Thank you for your comments

"We have stayed before and have had a few issues but this time was good." Mallonae Garton, 4 February 2011

Oakwood Manor - Auckland Airport Response: Great to hear you had a good stay, look forward to seeing you again.

"We had a good stay here, but had to ask for the free Internet and the bag of lollies after we arrived - these were part of the package. Otherwise quite happy with convenience and service." Anonymous, 4 January 2011

Oakwood Manor - Auckland Airport Response: Thank you for your positive response.

"We enjoyed our stay very much. Room was great. Service was great. Food was great. Parking availability whilst overseas was a real bonus. Thankyou!" Lorna Bell, 20 December 2010

"Kitchen closed at 8pm and only had 4 cans of alcohol to drink...no beer either." Anonymous, 12 October 2010

"Very good value for your money. It is basic, but it is all you need for putting your head down before flying out early in the morning. Car parking and shuttle service great." Kevin Crossman, 25 August 2010

"Good value overall, rooms are a little tired but clean and tidy. Airport transfers prompt and friendly." Helen Corder, 23 August 2010

"It is very simple and clean accommodation." Teunis Krijgsman, 21 August 2010

"Very plesant front desk staff and great staff on airport van transfers but we stayed 2 nights one going on holiday and one on the return, we found the first unit good but the return unit wasn't clean, dirty teatowel in kitchen, broken toilet seat and the shower was pretty rough working back to front, even loose hair in the shower." Mallonae Garton, 25 July 2010

"Exceeded my expectation with the the room. Yes definitely the best possible deal at that time. However, the food is not good and some reception person didn't explain about the parking details and she forgot to put me in the list that I need shuttle the next day" Myra Anne Joy Hernandez, 3 July 2010

"Rooms were a little old and dated, but clean and comfortable. Free shuttle and free car storage was a big plus." Anonymous, 1 July 2010

"Started off badly with us being given a room that smelled smokey and no cot set up for our daughter as requested - we also followed this up by email a couple of weeks before arriving and they assured us they could provide. A room change and set up of a cot and we were all sorted." Stephen T, 15 June 2010

"Found empty pizza food boxes under the coffee table in the lounge
A large amount of wall paper in the toilet was peeling off - really good shower though.
The bedrooms were clean and tidy and had a good sleep" Anonymous, 26 May 2010

"Very friendly staff. Great having the airport pick up and drop off service. Excellent prices!
Really good deal!" Martin Muschlin, 17 May 2010

"Good service from staff, but management needs to check rooms constantly to ensure all is well.

Urine was leaking from a pipe in our toilet, creating a smell and puddle.
Tissue-holder in bathroom was empty - when I asked for tissues I was told they have run out. Lame excuse in my book. Shouldn't happen." Eliza Mills, 6 May 2010

"efficient and helpful. Rooms clean. good transport. Suggest a sign on the door of the bus." Anonymous, 15 April 2010

"Very efficient and helpful staff." Lesley Carter, 12 April 2010

"Firstly our internet booking was for Oakwood manor but when we arrived they had no room for us there so we had to travel to Silver Oaks in Great South Rd.
Secondly we were unable to make use of the free continental breakfast as we had to leave the motel by 0630hrs to go to the airport and the dinning room did not open untill 0630hrs. (perhaps a breakfast tray left in our room the night before might be appropriate on these occasions)
Thirdly the web site advertises free shuttle service to and from the airport. Our trip to the airport was fine but on our return we were advised we had to pay for our return shuttle as we had not booked to stay that night of return." Greg Jackson & Barbara Ear, 15 March 2010

"Sorry I cannot rate....We did not stay at Oakwood Manor. We booked for 2 adults with our 2 young grandchildren. I phoned Ezybed as I did not know how to book for the 2 children under 12 as it automatically charged although they were meant to stay free. Ezybed helped me with the booking after checking the bedding config. etc in the No Frills room I was booking. It clearly states the room is No Frills with a queen & 2 singles but on arrival the manager told me this was definately NOT correct. He could not check as the computers were down at the time. However, he found us another hotel (Silver Oaks) which although a lot further from the airport than we wanted, it was lovely & we were put into a suite for the same price.
We had been to Oakwood Manor prior to this & all was fine." Glenis Fisher, 11 March 2010

"For cheap one night airport accomodation it was good, 5 mins from airport what more can you ask for." Samantha, 24 February 2010

"I was advised when I called to confirm my accommodation booking that we did not need to book the airport shuttle and yet when I arrived, the receptionist told me all early morning seats on the bus had been booked. I was annoyed at the lack of communication as this was a prime consideration for choosing to book a night at Oakwood." Anonymous, 19 January 2010

"I was a little bit disappointed on our arrival at Oakwood Manor to find out that the shuttle bus was full for our early morning transport, I hadn't realised when booking that it was a first come first served basis. However our stay, brief as it was was very satisfactory, thank you." Linda Burch, 1 January 2010

"Basic accommodation. Leaking tap in kitchen which dripped all night. Also taps on vanity very hard to turn off. Door handle to toilet hard to unlock. Nice meals for dinner and breakfast at restaurant although radio was irritating. Soft music would have been better." Janice Hart, 6 December 2009

"We booked low cost accommodation and it was suitable for the purpose. We had a very nice evening meal in the dining room. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Fridge was pretty rattly and woke us up a couple of times.
One or two slightly Fawlty Towers moments but not enough to spoil our stay." John Treloar, 18 November 2009

"We found the total experience extremely poor as the hotel is very tired, from the driver picking us up from the airport and never saying a word e.g, Welcome to NZ, too the room with a hole in the wall, door off its runners, cold, hair dryer not working and hanging from a hook on the wall etc etc. First impressions off someone coming to NZ, not good at all." Mel Beetham, 25 October 2009

"We were very happy with our stay and considered it good value for what we paid. Our only downside was our car window had been smashed. The car parking available (up to 14 days free) is not secure." St George, 13 October 2009

Ezibed.com Response: Unfortunately incidents such as this can happen anywhere. The car parking at this property is advertised as non secure.

"Very easy to find and stay in with no hassles. Staff friendly, helpful and efficient. Early morning alarm call on time and courtesy shuttle to airport fantastic. Just had a bit of a wait at the airport for shuttle coming back but excellent service all round. Facility to leave your car at no extra cost at Oakwood Manor is a great draw card and we would definitely recommend and go there again!" Dave and Debbie Law, 9 October 2009

"We chose the Oakwood for its price and convenience of storing the car and transporting us to and from the Airport free. For this I give them a 10. The staff were helpful and friendly. The room was clean and comfortable and suited our needs brilliantly. We couldn't get the microwave to work and the sliding door to the bathroom was stuck and hard to manoevre, but we only stayed there for part of 2 nights so we were ok with this." Lynda Morrell, 9 October 2009

"The stay was excellent." Mythily Ramanathan, 5 October 2009

"Have stayed here before, pretty basic but ok for 1 night. Everything needs updating but at least it is clean and tidy." Sarah, 21 September 2009

"Very short stay. Rooms were comfortable and clean. As we arrived at 1am with two very tired small children and a lot of baggage it might have been nice for someone to help us with bags rather than just point in the general direction of our room." Des Radford, 18 September 2009

"The place is in desperate need of new decor and I was afraid to remove my shoes in the place!
No satelite/Cable Television in our room as advertised. The place was dismal and far away from the airport, the internet could only be used in the designated lounge. The receptionist was nice though." S. Robinson, 8 September 2009

"The rooms were very pleasant. Clean and well appointed for the price. Pity some other guests were so noisy getting to and from their rooms. Very good services and I appreciated being able to leave my car and be shuttled to the airport." Beverley Louis, 31 August 2009

"I felt they took too long to pick me up on my arrival. I asked for a wake up call and this was forgotten and when going the next morning they where going to take us to the international terminal not domestic so I was not impressed." Christine Hawley, 30 August 2009

"Good basic accommodation at a reasonable price for a one night stopover. Policy to not provide milk when tea/coffee is provided seems a bit odd, but they did give us some when we asked. Shuttle service good and on time back to the airport." LW-Wellington, 30 August 2009

"Would have given 10 except the toilet fan was very noisy. Perfect for overnight prior to airport departure. Cheers." Marietta Smith, 21 August 2009

"This was a clean, easy, convenient stay and value for money. A bit of a hike to the room but the bed was comfy and we got a prompt wake up call. We agonized a bit over the lack of lighting in the long term carpark area but it wasn't an issue as all was where it should have been on our return. Efficient shuttle service." FJ - Tauranga, 14 August 2009

"The stay in the motel was fine." Anonymous, 20 June 2009

"Had the no frills room which was very very basic. However it was cheap so I guess you get what you pay for." Anonymous, 18 June 2009

"There was a piece of wood that fell off the door in the bathroom and the fan in the bathrrom rattled like it was going to fall off." Charmaine Lulich, 15 June 2009

"The room was clean and comfortable, the evening meal was atrocious, I do not recommend you eat here." Anonymous, 14 June 2009

"Very basic facilitities although was handy to airport and car parking and transfers to airport ok." Lynette Darroch, 7 June 2009

"A bit noisy with people coming and going at all times of the night." Raymond Hodson, 2 May 2009

"No shampoo, dinner was a debacle, shuttle left late." James Corbin, 22 April 2009

"Breakfast was great. Rooms need to be refurbished - outdated. Quite expensive rates. Fans are needed - very stuffy." Susan Dunn, 1 March 2009

"This was an extremely disappointing experience for such an attractive complex from the outside. Following is a list of observations made during our stay in room 137 - "studio suite": carpet was filthy, stained and sticky; ripped net curtain on the front door; "tired" curtains; leaking kitchen tap; filthy jug splashed with food; dated decor and fittings; dull brass taps over basin; basin chipped around plug hole; no air conditioning; small TV screen; tiny sachets of milk instead of carton; spare towels and blankets placed on floor in wardrobe; toilet bowl loose - not secured to floor; accumulation of dust & dirt behind door and along skirtings in toilet. The room felt totally unhygenic. We had problems when checking in at reception - firstly the receptionist said there was no record of our booking and when I told her I had confirmation of it and submitted the booking number she said "oh it wasn't printed out and couldn't find the booking." It is frustrating and irritating to receive this sort of treatment after a long and tiring trip. The reception area was small, cramped and uninviting. Other guests waiting for attention at the time had to stand outside as only 1 chair was provided. This complex requires a major overhaul including staff training as the current operation is well below reasonable expected standards. This was not quality and value for money - it was budget, sub-standard accommodation - unfortunately. I would never stay there again and I would ensure that none of my family or friends did either." Susan Dunn, 26 February 2009

"Nice quiet room and clean but whole complex could do with updating. Lovely breakfast on the house unexpected as part of the booking" Daryll Russell, 25 February 2009

"Asked for wake up call for 5am departure. They forgot until another person came in a said they hadn't received their call. Had 8 mins to get ready as were still asleep when phone rang." George Michael Thompson, 18 February 2009

"An average hotel that needs a bit of cleaning up here and there, should have the pool open on a hot day in the middle of summer (poor). Handy to airport price about right." Philip Mudford, 9 February 2009

"On arrival our breakfasts were mixed up, we had to reorder with the night staff which were very helpful. Other than that we were very satisfied. Clean and Pleasant." Carol Abbott, 5 February 2009

"Very tired and in need of refurbishment. Dining area needs urgent attention." Paul Darbyshire, 1 February 2009

"The rooms are a basic and decor is a bit shabby, but clean and comfortable enough. Close to the airport, but very far from town, so taxi ride is expensive if you want to go into Auckland for a meal etc." Anonymous, 19 January 2009

"Services excellent from reception staff to shuttle services. However rooms tired and dated but clean and comfortable" Anonymous, 3 January 2009

"I found the man at the reception desk almost rude - he was so unfriendly - no smile or welcome at all. I felt as though we were a hassle just checking in and out. The room was adequate. Some appliances were not working - wall heater/fan and plug below the microwave. The toilet smelt of urine (like a urinal) when we first opened the door. Very noisy neighbours till past midnight. We would not stay here by choice again." Anonymous, 23 December 2008

"The fridge in the room was quite noisy. Otherwise the room was quiet and clean, bed comfortable." Vivien Bridges, 18 December 2008

"I was generally happy with the service and the standard of the room provided. I consider it good value for the price." Robert Patton, 7 December 2008

"Very impressed with quick smooth check in, fast pickup at the airport, free storage for 10 days for my car and the clean tidy room." Ann Maree, 22 November 2008

"I was in a quiet room however I was a little disapointed with the decor. The hotel just felt a little "tired". Breakfast was lovely and the staff were great." Greg Macdonald, 13 October 2008

"It was fine as always except this time we had to be up for at 3-30am for our flight and a group checked in late in the evening and seemed to have the rooms all around us - consequently there were loud voices and banging doors for quite some time. Other than that we have had no problems in the past." Colleen Morton, 25 September 2008

"Clean room. Friendly service and very helpful with a requested room change to a bigger room. Good breakfast." Quaysie, 1 September 2008

"Ideal for an overnight before travelling to the airport. Transport was organised well and very efficient. Room was OK for the one night but I wouldn't want to be there much longer. Everything was clean and the facilities in the room were well maintained." Robert Wilson, 19 August 2008

"Very impolite at the counter, not helpful & rude. Criticising what we decide to do. The heater not working, had to shift rooms at 12 o'clock at night (on a very cold night). Online said we had a late check out when we got there they said it was not their fault and told us to check out earlier. Shuttle driver was very sad looking, grumpy and did not smile back at you." Dave Billings, 19 July 2008

"For the price we thought the room was very budget." Russell Moffitt, 15 July 2008

"Getting a bit tired - needs to update furnishings etc. but on the whole not too bad." Anonymous, 16 June 2008

"To be able to leave our car for the time we were away from NZ and to use the shuttle service to and from airport was very convenient and much appreciated." Anonymous, 22 May 2008

"Rooms a bit musty. Airport transfer service ok, but tends to be slow during the wee small hours." Anonymous, 20 May 2008
