"Very nice and enjoyable stay at Hotel. Reception and restaurant staff friendly. Breakfast buffet had large variety and worth the money. Room spacious. Carparking plenty.
The only surprise was the surcharge when settling my account with a credit card. The first time in all my travels in NZ. Perhaps a Rotorua thing?" Happy Visitor, 7 March 2012

"The hotel was very nice and the pool was lovely, but when we got to the room it was not set up for three people, only two. When I tried to contact house keeping the phone in our room did not work. When I bought it to the attention of the lady on reception , she didn't seem to want to help solve this problem." Jessica Shirley, 1 December 2011

"Absolutely huge rooms and bathrooms, wouldn't stay anywhere else in Rotorua now!!" Anonymous, 9 November 2011

"Great value for families as kids stay and eat free!!" Kelli Walker, 12 October 2011

"Our room was very nice, but we noted some maintenance issues at the hotel - leaky roof in the Mezz bar, the chair in our room had domes missing from the leather so pins were protruding that easily ripped clothing or punctured skin. There was only 1 robe in our room and we had to ask twice before we received the 2nd one. We almost ran out of toilet paper - and after servicing our room we were left with only one towel and had to ask for more. On check-in we ticked that we would like to receive a national newspaper but never did. We will not stay there again. The Breakfast and service in the Atrium restaurant however was excellent." Alan Law, 10 March 2011

"Nice clean facilities staff very helpful." Mike Hussey, 7 September 2010

"The breakfast was great alot to choose from and was great that kids can stay and eat free, I will be staying there again." Ashleigh, 11 August 2010

"Lovely hotel with large lovely room. Nice staff." Anonymous, 11 June 2010

"The room was great nice and big and the bed was very comfortable" Anonymous, 31 March 2010

"Very friendly services" Kyu Kim, 12 March 2010

"Some of the fixtures in the room were broken/worn, but overall a clean tidy place to stay with nice amenities." Annette Hura, 18 January 2010

"A little tired, but comfortable, not 4 star in our opinion. Booked for 3 adults but room only set up for 2, including towels, glassware etc. Staff not that friendly or helpful. Will not use this hotel again." Maxine Brook, 16 September 2009

"Had trouble with the swipe cards opening our door and also attempting to gain access to the swimming pool. Staff were very friendly a good stay overall." Donna-Marie Dawber-Ashley, 28 August 2009

"Nice rooms. Only complaint is lack of crockery and cutlery in rooms." Greg Booker, 20 August 2009

"My first impression of the place was that it looked very flash but I was soon to be disappointed. I supposedly booked a 'deluxe room' which sounded good and had a spa and sky etc. I also requested a room with a view and got a smoking room on the ground floor with a view of the carpark and the spa looked pretty scummy. I felt short changed. We arrived on a rainy miserable night and were told to park around the back (not undercover) and come in the back door. No one offered to assist with our luggage. I would have expected a bit more considering it's supposed to be a 4 star? On the upside the room was very spacious and the bed was comfortable." Anonymous, 17 June 2009

"Room clean, staff very friendly and accommodating. Restaurant excellent service and excellent food!" Jennifer, 24 April 2009

"Unexpectedly up-graded into room with spa bath. The veiw of the race-course just outside our window thrilled our kids to bits, they loved seeing a race horse galloping around while they ate breakfast. Rating only a 9/10 because we couldnt get a high-chair in our room for our baby, and kids eat free at the restaurant but the dinner menu wasnt very kid friendly (especially for young children)." C McClutchie, 26 February 2009

"Spoke to management about a TV not working. Service was brilliant. Changed our room without an issue. Well done Rydges!" Greg Hollier, 16 February 2009

"I stay at Rydges around every three weeks and normally really enjoy my stay - however, for the past two visits, the pool has been shut or closed for a private group. I would also appreciate one or two bits of cutlery and crockery in the rooms, I am aware that they have dining in the hotel but it is handy to be able to have a nibble without having to use your fingers as tools. On the plus side, the staff are really friendly and the rooms themselves are large and well furnished. The free car park is also a bonus." Kay Robertson, 13 February 2009

"An excellent hotel, overlooking the racecourse. Our room was spacious with a separate spa room, a balcony looking directly onto the racecourse and full dining table etc. The continental breakfast was one of the best we have experienced anywhere and with 2 children under 10 it provided an excellent standard of accomodation. We will definitely stay again." Bruce Hewitt, 24 January 2009

"Excellent value for $99 per night, huge rooms with 2 x large double beds and still plenty of space and a balcony. Would definitely stay there again." David Graham, 23 January 2009

"Enjoyed our stay at Rydges Rotorua...with the special rates it made the stay reasonable in cost and the room was nice and spacious with views..the service was very good also...would definitely stay there again if special rates were still available." Anonymous, 20 January 2009

"Room not cleaned very well, fittings worn out, areas in bathroom grimy and dirty. Counter staff not very friendly or helpful...couldn't really be bothered with guest relations - a real let down for a large hotel. Our last stay here was fine, things have slipped a bit - wondering why the restaurant was always empty when the hotel had plenty of guests." Anonymous, 11 January 2009

"Pleasant room, comfortable bed, good bath but no teatowels or washing up provisions." Carol Joines, 27 October 2008

"Big rooms which are great, warm as toast. A great stay and I will be staying with them again." Kay Robertson, 12 August 2008

"Initial reception slow. No one was there when we arrived. Housekeeping poor. Cobwebs in ceiling corners. Shower tiles mouldy. Outside (deck) light and light in wardrobe/luggage area not working. Fittings looking tired (most are corroded black by sulphur atmosphere). Restaurant menu limited. Had room service on first night. We went to the restaurant for the second night but nothing else looked good so went to a Thai restaurant in town. Insufficient "secure" parking - area full by 8.30pm. Television is faulty (flashing constantly, screen unstable)." Jonathan Atkinson, 23 July 2008
