"Room was very tired and needed alot of work - some work had been done to the rooms but little things like loose tap in shower, hole in wall behind door - but the view was fantastic!" Anonymous, 15 April 2012
"Lovely staff. Useful and the view overlooking the Geysers really made the stay worthwhile!" Michele Humphrey, 19 January 2012
"Lovely view and excellent room for the price and we weren't charged extra for another adult and an infant." Amanda Walker, 7 December 2011
"A basic but large and tidy room. Easily fitted our family of four. Great views of the geyser next door. Friendly staff." Paul Rickett, 16 November 2011
"Out of 5 lights only two worked--Furniture in poor state--Room was unclean--Door to balcony would not shut--Paper cup on balcony full of cigarette butts--No lock on Toilet door--Worst I've ever stayed in in 27 years." Dave, 9 November 2011
"We were very disappointed with this overrated and false advertised hotel, we booked it through Ezibed.com as it advertised as "Probably THE BEST DEAL IN ROTORUA. - RECIEVE A PLATE of delicious homebake biscuits on arrival, PLUS FREE IN ROOM INTERNET" 1. On arrival, staff was doing Facebook, She did not say "Welcome" or smile but looked a bit tired did not even acknowledge us as she might have thought we were just another set of tourists who cant speak English or something. Yeah sure she did say "Hi, your name please." 2.Homebake biscuits on arrival?? We never received it even when manager came to our room to fix the stiff, dusty hair dryer. 3. The hair dryer had dust stacked up in the inner part of air vent and heat coils and it did not work when I tried it. 4. Manger came after we rang reception in about 5 min and he gave it a smack and fidgeted around with the wires and it worked. 5. Room was horrible as the wall paper was ripped and damaged. My wife and I were very upset and took picture of this. 6. Light fittings were all broken and hanging by the broken metal arm dangerously. They were not cleaned as I could swiped them with my finger and I could see the dust was clearly not a sulphate dust particle. I lived in Rotorua for 2 years and even people with the right eye sight could tell the difference. 7. Ceiling fan was installed in the room but the controller switch on the wall had no knob so we had no control over it. 8. So the manger came and I asked him, "Is the wall meant to be like that? Are the lights meant to be like that? Is the switch meant to be like that?" And he said "yeah, it's bit unfortunate, but yeah, they are meant to be like that." 9. I went to reception and made complaints and showed the receptionist the photos I took and asked her the same thing. She and Chris had a talk on the back of the front desk and suggested me the other room. 10. Other room at least had a knob on the ceiling fan switch and light fittings were not broken but still they were not clean and room smelled like it's not been ventilated properly. Please don't give me a excuse saying it was smell of Rotorua or sulphate. I am not that stupid. 11. To avoid, further disappointment, I cancelled the rest of the stay. But she said "you mean you are checking out?" and asked me to pay the full price as I did not cancel the booking within 24 hours. It was getting late and dark, we were tired from our long journey and we knew we had to look around town for new accommodation, so we paid the full amount. And they didn't even say sorry. This was a horrible, frustrating experience. We paid $34 more then what we paid in this terrible hotel and had a really good stay in elsewhere with room service as well." Mr. Kang, 12 July 2011
"Very helpful friendly reception lady. The room didnt lock at all when I first got there and it had to be fixed. The fittness centre and spa and sauna where not working and couldn't be used. The private spout pool was very good, just as good as a spa." Aaron C, 27 May 2011
"Found hygiene a big issue. Hair clip and a dead cockcroch found in the shower box. Got rid of the cockcroch but the hairclip remained there till we left despite our room having been cleaned. There were stains on the bed linen. Not very pleasant. A lot of movement was felt whenever heavy traffic went past as the room was right by the main road." Anonymous, 23 February 2011
SilverOaks Hotel Geyserland Response: We are greatly disappointed to hear your comments and we have passed these on to the Head Housekeeper for immediate attention. We do pride ourselves on our clean rooms, we do also offer a fantastic view over the Pohutu Geyser and mud pools
"The bathroom sliding door was broken and couldn't shut properly. The bathroom was not clean. I told them that the place was not clean. They did not seem to care." Wendy Middleton, 27 October 2010
"Apart from there not being enough towels in the room, the service we received was great." Angelina Knowles, 7 October 2010
"Friendly, great view, room was clean and tidy." Anonymous, 5 October 2010
"Very tired and worn and while the price reflects this it does not in any way compensate for the grossly filthy shower cubicle with black mouldy grout in the tiling. The sheets presumably were freshly laundered but they were so wrinkled it would be impossible to tell. When speaking to the reception about these matters the best reply she could come up with was "ok" not good enough and while the Geyser view room had a good view it did not make up for the negatives." John, 15 April 2010
"There was a charge of $5 to use the spout pools. We did not mind this as was very reasonable Advertising also advised late check out till 12 midday. We were phoned at 10.15am on our final day advising check out time of 10am. When I pointed out what advertising said there was no explanation or apology." Maria-Theresa Maddock, 14 April 2010
"More than adeqaute for the quick overnight stay. Great view of the geysers" Catherine, 13 March 2010
"Lovely view over the thermal area but that was about all. The room was very basic and borderline threadbare. The bedlinen although clean was quite old and tired. The venue needs a refurbishment asap." Katrina Turnbull, 23 February 2010
"Didnt get to stay at Silveroaks,as we were told they were booked up. Was told this on arrival, even though we booked 3wks in advance. Not very happy about it. They booked us into Gwendoline Court, with no pool or Resturant. That was the reason we wanted the Silveroaks, because it had a pool and Restaurant." Alan Poole, 10 February 2010
"Great room, would recommend to others" Anonymous, 6 February 2010
"Lovely view from room - staff not as interested as they should be - bathroom not as clean as it should be." Helen Huggins, 1 February 2010
"Room a little tired, Staff need customer service training but very good breakfast." Charlotte Tily, 28 January 2010
"Old hotel but the view is amazing. I would only bother staying here for the geyser view rooms. Also the spout pools are cool. Breakfast not of a great standard, the reception staff were unhelpful on check in and the bar closed at 9pm but seriously, worth it for the geyser room views!" Claire McSweeney, 25 January 2010
"A shame the hotel is in great need of an update because the locality is spectacular! the view of the geyser and mudpools fantastic!" Anonymous, 10 January 2010
"Hotel showing a few signs of age and would need a car to be convenient but the view alone makes this a great value for money hotel. I've racked up some miles and rarely have I found that the top attraction can be viewed from your balcony at $95 a night. We had room 823 overlooking mudpools and 24hr grandstand view of best Geyser in Rotorua - no need to pay entrance fees to park. Have a beer on your balcony and wait 20 minutes to see the next eruption." Steven Graham, 6 January 2010
"The room wasnt ready when we arrived. The bed was worn right through to the sacking on the corners of the base and it squeaked. The top sheet had stains on it and the blanket on it was a very thin single size. The chair for the desk was wobbly and the room wasnt that clean. The lounge where we had a drink had dead flies in the corner. All up I would have to say we wont stay there again or recommend it to anyone. It needs a major refurbishment. The only good thing about it was the view of the geyser from our ground floor unit" Anonymous, 31 December 2009
"Enjoyed the great Geyser view from 1st floor balcony." Stuart Campbell, 31 December 2009
"The view of the Geysers was fantastic. The staff where great. The only down side was that the room decor was a bit tired and needs updating." Phillip Hare, 7 October 2009
"Clean, but very old and tired. Fantastic view though! Staff were polite enough, but didn't go out of their way - particularly as it's a high tourist spot we thought they might be more helpful in pointing out some of the best value sights to see or even have some deals going or something. Didn't even offer to set anything up for us when we did make enquiries." Anonymous, 24 September 2009
"We enjoyed this hotel very much and the view was absolutely stunning. We were treated to a 24hr display by the world famous Pohutu Geyser and mud pool from the privacy of our hotel room balcony. The only reason it didn't get a 10 was because it is getting a little "old" and is in need of a bit of a refurbishment (our door stuck a bit, the balcony door did not shut securely and the guest laundry was out of action). Otherwise, a thoroughly enjoyable stay." Philip Oh, 18 September 2009
"Nice view, tidy rooms. Really decent place for the cost!! Would stay there again if visiting Rotorua." Cherie Galyer, 8 September 2009
"Nice, simple room. Very clean. Very nice and polite staff - especially the manager in the kitchen who went beyond the call of duty." Anonymous, 11 August 2009

"We stayed in their large family room with a geyser view which was absolutely spectatular. You almost didn't need to go to the thermal park. The room was very clean, with an excellent heater. The price included continental breakfast and we just paid an extra $6 and got the full breakfast. Their individual hot pools were large and free. We would definately stay there again." Christine, 18 July 2009

"Very good value. Pleasant room with very nice outlook." Peter Dredge, 21 April 2009
"Nice place service was great just very noisy and the outside lights were too bright for the blinds." Anonymous, 15 April 2009
"Stay was good and breakfast and check out very good." Ian Harvey, 7 April 2009
"Slightly disappointing to find the spa not working and housekeeping knocking on the door to come in just after 9am each morning." Tracey Atkins, 17 March 2009
"The restaurant had amazing food. Spa bath did not work and decor was a bit dated. However, the view made up for this." Anonymous, 25 February 2009
"Rooms are dated but they are very large by today's standards with astounding views over the mud pools and gysers. They were well equipped and it was nice to have a bath in the unit. We found it fantastic value for money and a perfect location." Di Cush, 28 January 2009
"Not nice view as all we saw out the windows were customers clothes hanging on the fence outside. Not nice and when I mentioned it no one seemed to care." Norma McFadzean, 27 January 2009
"Welcomed nicely. The room needs decorating, the cistern leaked all night. The food at the restaurant was good." Maxine, 15 January 2009
"On arrival at the Hotel we were initially disappointed as it projected an air of being run down and not very "nice". However on booking in we found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. The rooms were old but very clean. The restuarant served excellent food and again service was very good. The cooked breakfast on offer was good but we felt the continental a little "tired' and choices on offer limited. Overall we enjoyed our stay and intend to do it again in the near future." Maryanne Mitchell, 22 August 2008
"We were welcomed with open arms & enthusiasm - the girl on the front desk must love her job!! We were checked in staight away, even though we were early. The Hotel is a bit older style, but clean and the view is awesome. We had a dinner package, but when we went to the restaurant we were told it was a quiet time for them, we were the only ones in there, and half of the things on the menu were unavailable - a bit disappointing!!! Apart from that, we had a nice stay - the staff made all the difference." Anonymous, 19 June 2008
