"Rooms were clean and tidy though the 2 queen beds seemed to be doubles rather than the advertised queens. Reception seem to have difficulty with bookings made online, though they eventually sort it out. Check-in is often time-consuming and slow." Hiraina Melbourne, 6 September 2011

"Check in and check out was the most painful exercise I have ever had to endure. The hotel bar was shut by our return to the hotel at 9.20pm, the hotel safe was locked shut and the air conditioning in the room could not be operated by remote. The rooms were okay and the beds were comfortable but the minibar was not stocked and had to be arranged with reception.

"Have often stayed at this hotel mainly due to its central location and the family friendly room rates and facilities it offers. "A popular place with many guests - a good feel when you arrive. In places it looks a little tired with musty smells in the corridor. The carpet looks old. I was surprised with the requirement to post a $50 bond per night when I arrived - never seen this before anywhere.

"Hotel was overall good value, although we were disappointed with the pool which for some reason was only lukewarm when we went and very small for a hotel of it's size. "very nice place, the rooms in the 200 block were nicely revamped and cool balcony. "The rooms are well made and clean (Although the rooms provided for us do not have view. The windows open to a high wall making the rooms dark and gloomy.) The major complaint I have is the late check-in time. We arrived in time for the 2:00pm check-in time but we were told that the rooms were not yet ready. We were ask to wait for 45 minutes. The front destk staff were not apologetic about the delay and there was not effort done to make us comfortable while waiting. After 45 minutes, I went back to the counter to check if the rooms were ready. Again, I was told that they were not. If I didn't complain about the situation the front desk manager didn't attend to me. That spoiled the whole stay. "The first impressions were of a newly refurbished hotel clean and appealing. Fittings etc good and staff friendly. Minor complaint the wash hand basin tap fittings needed a good clean round the edges and the sink plug. I mentioned this and it was cleaned." Anonymous, 15 April 2009

"Overall the facilities at the hotel were excellent (being so close to the lake the smell of the sulphur was constant but you expect that). We were given an 'upgraded' room which, on the surface appeared to be fine. However, once we had settled in for the night and everything was quiet we discovered our room was over the machine room of the swimming pool and the constant noise of the water exchanger made for a difficult night's sleep. Had we been staying longer we would have insisted on a room change. On leaving and handing in the hotel's questionnaire we were told that that room should never have been allocated to us. However no recompense was offered and no correspondence has been received since. The room in question is 207 – avoid at all costs." J Dean, 11 May 2008
