"Absolutely loved the surroundings. It was so modern and fresh that it made us feel very welcome. The room was perfect. The bathroom was superior and there was nothing to fault the service or the hotel. Highly recommend the Devon for everybody who visits New Plymouth." Kitty Young, 4 April 2012


"They were two hot nights in a small room with only one small window that could be opened. Internal air conditioner too noisy to have on during sleep. An external hotel air conditioner outside the window was very loud and came on intermittently during the night.
Note that while hot drinks can be made there are no utensils or plates for eating or heating a meal." Anonymous, 23 February 2012

"The hotel is obviously undergoing major renovation work, we were put in a room where work was being done right outside our window on the ground floor and in the room next door, none of this was communicated when booking in. The hotel staff were very accomodating when we asked to be moved though. Clean, smart, modern rooms and very friendly helpful staff. Maintenance has to be done but notification so you can make an informed choice before booking, or at least when checking in would have made a big difference." AF, 20 June 2011

"Small room but very nicely furnished and room looked onto the garden which was nice. Hotel is on the main road but not walking distance from main downtown. Loud pipes so we could hear the water running next door all the time. Spa was nice but the buffet dining area looks out onto it so there are people just watching you while they eat.

"A little disappointing with the rooms, they were very compact, there was little in the way of sound proofing (bring earplugs) and the water pressure in the shower was the worst I have ever experienced when the room next door used water the pressure dropped further to a dribble not what one expects in this day and age." Anonymous, 8 November 2010

"Customer Services was great and appearance of foyer, restaurant and room were faultless.
We stayed in room 871 and feel it was too small for 2 people. There wasn't room for a luggage rack to put a suitcase on and when you had to practically slide between the end of the bed and the wall (our shoulders knocked the TV on the wall a few times)" Sue Davidson, 28 October 2010

"My Wife and I really enjoyed our stay . The room was nice,clean and warm. The beds were comfortable and the TV was excellent with plenty of chanels including in house movies. The restaurant was fantastic with both food and staff. The bar was great with cheery staff.

"I liked the look when I arrived. My son's room was great but he is 6'3 and the bed in his particular room was a bit short for him. Otherwise they really enjoyed their stay and room. We had a musty smell in our room. The coffee plunger was odd the inside plunge part was too big and I ended up with a cup full of beans (told staff should be fixed). Great shower and comfy bed. The outlook over the pool and yard was pleasant and relaxing. Would stay again and recommend to others." Raewyn White, 28 May 2010

"The business room was simple but clean enough, strangely it had 3 separate beds within it. The tea making facilities left a lot to be desired namely one needed to fill the jug up with a cup as the only faucet was in the bathroom which did not allow the jug to fit under it!!
The closet for the clothes was somewhat makeshift not actually a closet and everytime it opened it hit the "return" on the entrance door to the room. The exterior windows were very old and could not be shut properly.
The buffet restaurant and bar were however a pleasant change, was one of the best buffets I have ever visited, the food tasted fresh and there was a great selection and the atmosphere was good. Would recommend to anyone, the "captains Table" is also a great idea." Anonymous, 1 March 2010

"The overall experience was great. The room was clean, tidy and comfortable. The down side was there was no drawers to put clothes in although there was a wardrobe with hangers and while the bed was comfortable it was short being as I presume it was only a double.
