"The location is good - not much pub noise as we were on the 2nd floor. I was initially impressed with the free "continental breakfast" deal but that couldn't compensate for the lack of cleanliness in the bathroom. Bed sheets were clean and the room was spacious. "Below average. Very tired furnishings and bathroom facilities. Few TV stations available. Breakfast poor, only choice of peanut butter with toast. Staff reasonably helpful but were also bar staff of attached public house and therefore quite stretched. Luckily I was only staying for one night. I would not stay there again and certainly wouldn't recommend it. I suggest an extensive renovation project to restore it to former glory." Martin Turver, 28 January 2009
The Grand Hotel Response: We are obviously disappointed Mr Turver did not enjoy his stay. Our guests as a rule tell us what a wonderful stay they have had and enjoy the atmosphere of The Grand. We are Qualmark 2plus and this is reflected in our tariff which is exceptionally competitive. Our rooms offer good clean accommodation. We have freeview TV in the rooms and Sky in the Breakers Cafe and the Rosie O'Gradys Bar. Our complimentary continental breakfast consists of a choice of 4 cereals, toast, preserves as well as peanut butter tea and coffee. Cooked is available from $7 to $14. Breakers Cafe & Bar is a family restaurant. Again we are disappointed he did not enjoy his stay at the Grand.
